Child Life’s Shira Miller is Rush Employee of the Year

By Lisa Kappy

We are so excited and proud of our co-worker, Shira Miller, who was recently named Rush University Medical Center‘s employee of the year.

Shira, MS, CCLS, is a certified child life specialist who works primarily in radiology, seeing pediatric patients and their families for both inpatient and outpatient procedures. As with any child life specialist, Shira’s focus is on helping children and families understand the test or procedure that they may be having and finding strategies that may help that child or family cope with those particular procedures.

What we in child life have always known is how dedicated Shira is to her work and the patients and families that she serves here at Rush. She is a wonderful co-worker, who is always eager to help other staff members and to do what is necessary.

It is wonderful to see that all of Shira’s hard work, attention to detail and dedication to Rush has finally paid off with such a distinguished award.

Lisa M. Kappy BA, CCLS, CEIM, is a child life specialist with Rush University Medical Center. Rush’s Child Life Program focuses on the emotional and developmental well-being of hospitalized children and their families.
